Practice Seat No. 02
Practice Seat No. 02 explores the life cycle of a seating object. The seat sourced from waste was selected; with the goal of sustainability. Over 300 discarded guitar strings were used for the cushion.
Weaving was employed as the method, specifically using the 'Plain Dutch Weave' technique. Despite the challenges of pulling and weaving the strings, experimentation with various tools led to this effective approach.

Based on data from the D’Addario String Company, it’s estimated that over 1.5 million pounds of instrument string metal could end up in landfills annually.
Consequently, I began searching for waste from instrument strings. I chose the Guitar Center store in Chicago as my source for waste string materials.
Exploring different weaving methods, I came up with the 'Plain Dutch Weave' technique, which, when combined with springs, allows the cushion to become bouncy.
Initially, I designed the chair with square metal rods and a detachable structure that can be flat-packed for shipping and easily assembled on-site with just 15 screws.
The final design was inspired by Scandinavian material choices, Oak wood. I used CNC machining to create the legs, then added a yellow hue to give it an expressive look, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and foundational values.
